Lorac Pro Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

I probably have enough neutral eyeshadows to last a lifetime, but I’ve heard so many fantastic things about the Lorac Pro Eyeshadow palette that I decided to just go for it & buy it during one of Sephora’s fantastic end-of-the-year sales, and, after using it several times, I am so happy that I did!

The Pro Palette sells for $42 contains 16 eyeshadows and a mini tube of Behind The Scenes eyshadow primer (which I will be reviewing separately).  The eyeshadows are quite small – .55g each (a MAC eyeshadow, for reference, is about three times bigger at 1.5g).  For me Pro Palette is a great value, since you get so many colors, and I rarely finish an eyeshadow.

Here are the sixteen eyeshadows (note the repeat in the 2nd and 3rd photo):

As you can see, the top eight eyeshadows are all matte.  The lower eight appear to be shimmers in the pan, but Champagne has small flecks of glitter, and Deep Purple swatches more like a satin – the others are true shimmers.

The texture of every single eyeshadow in this palette is fantastic; the mattes are buttery and smooth, and the shimmers are just amazing.  If I am being super picky, the mattes do kick up some dust (and thus have some fallout when applied), but it really doesn’t bother me.  It’s sort of similar to the texture of Illamasqua’s blushes, only more pigmented.  The texture of the shimmers reminds me of the best of Urban Decay.   I’ve worn several of the shades, and they last normally on me (I’ve tried them over both my everyday eyeshadow primer, NYX HD, and Lorac’s own primer).

Below, the swatches with flash show the color and texture more accurately, but I’ve also included natural light swatches.

I also compared the Lorac Pro palette to the Naked I palette, and found two sets of dupes and one set of similar shades.

Lorac Nude and Urban Decay Virgin are identical to my eye:

Lorac Taupe and Urban Decay Buck are close enough that I’d call them dupes, though they aren’t exactly identical – the undertones are slightly different:

Lorac Slate and Urban Decay Gunmetal are similar, but not dupes. The Lorac is more pigmented and a shimmer; the UD is sheer in comparison, and has flecks of glitter.

Overall, I would absolutely, definitely recommend the Lorac Pro palette to anyone who wear neutral eyeshadows – it has a fantastic mix of colors and finishes, and is a good value.

If you already own this palette, do you love it as much as I do? If you don’t, is it something that appeals to you?
